Ways to Play North Carolina Pick 4

Pick 4 gives players the opportunity to decide what counts as a win when filling out their playslip, and there's plenty of choice. That's one of the fun things about Pick 4! We've prepared a guide explaining each option, so you can be a Pick 4 pro.

Exact Order Play
Exact Order Play

Match all four numbers in drawn-order to win. This play type has the highest single prize available with Pick 4: $5,000. However, it also has some of the slimmest odds.

Any Order Play<

To win, your numbers must match all four drawn numbers, but the order doesn't matter. For this play type, it makes a big difference if you choose the same number more than once, but more on that later.

50/50 Play
50/50 Play

For this play type, the cost of your ticket is split in half. Half goes on an Exact Order play, the other half on Any Order. You can win the Any Order prize, or win both prizes if you get an Exact match!

Combo Play
Combo Play

This play type works by entering all possible combinations of your four numbers as a separate Exact Order bet. It costs a lot more (up to $24, or even $48 with the Fireball add-on), but the odds and prizes are much better too!

Multi-Draw Option
Pair Play

You only need to match the first two numbers, or the last two numbers for this play type. It has the lowest prizes, but the best odds!

How many "Ways" will you play?

For Any Order, 50/50, and Combo play types, the numbers you pick are important, because they'll affect the odds, prizes, and even the cost of your ticket. Here's why:

Imagine you play an Any Order ticket with the numbers 5678. You can win if those numbers appear in, well, Any Order. Because you've chosen four unique numbers, there are 24 different combinations you could win with.

But, if you played 5556, there would only be four possible winning combinations. As a result, you're less likely to win with some play types if you pick duplicate numbers. This is referred to as the number of "Ways" you play; you can play 4, 6, 12, or 24 Ways.

To make things fair, prizes are increased if you play fewer Ways on an Any Order or 50/50 ticket. With Combo plays, the prizes stay the same, but the cost of your ticket increases if you play more Ways. Use the tool and table below to get a better idea of how it works if you're still unsure!
